Potassium fluoride is the chemical compound with the formula KF. After hydrogen fluoride, KF is the primary source of the fluoride ion for applications in manufacturing and in chemistry. It is an alkali halide and occurs naturally as the rare mineral carobbiite. Solutions of KF will etch glass due to the formation of soluble fluorosilicates, although HF is more effective.

Potassium fluoride is a kind of salt, also called potassium fluoride salt. It is a white monoclinic crystal or crystalline powder. It tastes salty, easily absorbs moisture, and is soluble in water but not in ethanol. Its aqueous solution is alkaline and can corrode glass and porcelain, so it is usually used as a variety of glass etching, welding fluxes, wood preservatives, agricultural pesticides, pesticide intermediates, raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry, and organic fluorinat1ed raw materials. Construction, chemical industry, and agriculture play an indispensable role. Application area Potassium fluoride is one of the most commonly used fluorinating agents. It can be said that without potassium fluoride, there will be no flourishing fluorinated chemicals. Potassium fluoride is the most important period of reactivity as a fluorinating agent. As a fluorinating agent, especially in the production and application of fine chemicals, high-activity potassium fluoride has incomparable advantages over ordinary anhydrous potassium fluoride. Physical and chemical properties Potassium fluoride is the basic raw material for the production of fluoride, chemical formula KF. The molecular weight is 58.10. Colorless cubic crystal or white powder. poisonous! Easily deliquescent. Salty. The proportion is 2.48. Melting point 858°C. The boiling point is 1505°C. soluble in water. Soluble in hydrofluoric acid and liquid ammonia. Insoluble in ethanol and acetone. The aqueous solution is alkaline and can corrode glass and porcelain. It is irritating to human skin, mucous membranes and eyes. When the temperature is lower than 40.2℃, it crystallizes in the aqueous solution to obtain the dihydrate KF·2H2O, the latter is a monoclinic crystal, which is self-soluble in crystal water at 41℃. It is obtained by thermal decomposition of potassium hydrogen fluoride or neutralization of hydrofluoric acid (40% or anhydrous) with potassium carbonate (or potassium hydroxide). Used for glass carving, food preservation, and also used as welding flux, fluorinating agent, insecticide, etc.
